Transforming the Theatre into Your Classroom
The Columbia City Ballet’s Educational Outreach series is celebrating 24 years of educating millions of children throughout the Southeast. We offer a wide spectrum of artistic genres and disciplines, different dance forms, art history, movement, physical fitness, music, theatre etiquette and stagecraft to our students. All performances feature the professional dancers of the Columbia City Ballet and our award-winning production standards. We are proud to have nearly 30,000 attendees at our Educational Outreach Program productions each season!
When you are setting up your 2014-2015 school year schedule make sure to include these unique educational programs into your science, math, and language arts planning. Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Dancing the Art of Jonathan Green: Kids for Kids, and Lion King of Mali are coordinated to the Common Core State Standards and incorporate STEM strategies that are integrated into the program curriculum and lesson plans. Artistic Director William Starrett had the vision to develop curriculum driven educational dance performance experiences that would be accompanied by a teacher’s guide, whom would choose stories and topics that help our young people with today’s concerns and developmental needs while also showcasing our company’s diversity
At only $5.00 per seat, this can’t-miss opportunity to learn about various dance forms, history and stagecraft is not only a wonderful learning experience but also comes at a great value. Students and adults of all ages are invited to attend these special Koger Center performances for the same low price of $5.00. However, these are not dress rehearsals that we open to the public; our productions are specially made each season to provide a deep understanding of the art form of ballet and enhance the lives of every patron who is in attendance. The Columbia City Ballet holds our mission to educate the community at the highest level each season, so these productions will leave you with an greater knowledge and appreciation of ballet and a yearning to learn more about the performing arts in our beautiful city!
To further enhance your educational experience, the Columbia City Ballet will email an Educational Curriculum Teacher’s Guide to every registered teacher or group leader who has paid in full two weeks prior to every performance,. Materials will include the history of ballet, informative games, ballet terms and information on proper ballet etiquette. Our Educational Guides are hand-crafted by educational professionals in the community and will give teachers the necessary materials to prepare their students for the production and make the experience the most fun and educational it can be.
Most performances last from 45 minutes to an hour, including a Q&A and demonstration session.
