Sakura, originally from Nagoya, Japan, is a former Dancer with Columbia Classical Ballet and Virginia National Ballet and is now has been awarded a promotion as a Demi Soloist for Columbia City Ballet after her third season with the company.
She trained under Maiko Uemura at the Ecole de Ballet MU and saw her first opportunity to come to the U.S. in the summer of 2011. In Japan, Sakura auditioned for the Kirov Academy of Ballet Summer Program.
She took the opportunity and was invited to stay for the year-round program on scholarship.
In 2013, Sakura graduated from the Kirov Academy and joined Columbia Classical Ballet. Her beautiful technique has been awarded many times – 2017 World Ballet Competition Bronze Medal, 2014 Varna International Competition Semi-Finalist, 2013 Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition Silver Medal, 2013 ADC IBC SR Grand Prix and 2012 Japan Grand Prix second place.
Her company repertory includes Juliet – Romeo and Juliet, Sugarplum – The Nutcracker, Kitri – Don Quixote, Odile – Swan Lake.
