South Carolina's Largest Performing Arts Organization Celebrates 60 Years!

Maurice Johnson

Maurice is in his thirteenth season with Columbia City Ballet. Born in Greenville, Maurice began dancing at the age of eleven at Fine Arts Center and Greenville Ballet. He is a University of North Carolina School of the Arts graduate and has studied with full scholarship at The Rock School and Dance Theater of Harlem. He has had the opportunity to work with choreographers Lynn Taylor-Corbett and Val Caniparoli creating world premieres.

Maurice has danced with Nashville Ballet, Richmond Ballet and Miriam Barbosa Dance Company. Some of his favorite roles at Columbia City Ballet include “Sand Dance Gymnopedies I/II” from Off the Wall and Onto the Stage:  Dancing the Art of Jonathan Green, “Puss in Boots” from The Sleeping Beauty and “Dew Drop Cavalier” in Nutcracker.

In addition to his work with Columbia City Ballet as a First Soloist, Maurice has performed as a guest artist in productions ranging from Fosse’s “Crunchy Granola Suite” from Dancin’ and Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante and Western Symphony.
