William Starrett, Columbia City Ballet’s Artistic & Executive Director, has been appointed as this year’s Artistic Director for Live On Lincoln 2023, the highly anticipated finale to Columbia’s Artista Vista festival. Live on Lincoln brings together Columbia’s leading performing arts organizations for a spectacular production while patrons savor a delectable dinner from Blue Marlin on the cobbled streets of Lincoln Street.
Starrett is the Artistic and Executive Director, as well as the Principal Choreographer of the Columbia City Ballet for his 36th season as Artistic Director. He has been associated with the company for over 40 years, serving as Artist-in-Residence, Associate Director, and Premier Danseur. In 1986, he became the 2nd Artistic Director in the company’s history. He won the bronze medal at the first US International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi in 1979, after which he became one of the world’s most prolific and skilled guest artists. Since 1988, he has choreographed 20 full-length ballets and more than 21 Educational Ballets for the Company’s Educational Outreach and Engagement Series. Starrett is a graduate of Leadership Columbia, founder of the AIDS Benefit Foundation of South Carolina, and a member of several prestigious organizations. He is also the recipient of the Elizabeth O’Neil Verner Governor’s Award for the Arts and has received other awards and recognition for his contributions to the community. He hosts Arts WACH on FOX News weekly and was selected as a 2021 recipient of the R.I.C.E. Award, presented by the Lowcountry Rice Culture Project.
As the Creative Director for Live On Lincoln, Starrett will lead the festival’s artistic vision and direction, collaborating with his team at Columbia City Ballet to make Live on Lincoln 2023 a triumphant success. Showcasing some of the best local Arts Organizations across a range of art forms, including dance, music, theater, and visual arts, Live On Lincoln promises to be an extraordinary event. The festival is scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 16, 2023, on the picturesque cobbled streets of Lincoln Street in Columbia, SC.
